Do you remember my Year of Commitment? I don't blame you if you don't, that was back in 2020 and my ambitions crumpled in the face of a Global Pandemic. I didn't let go of the concept, so I am now a few weeks into the Year Of Commitment 2023! Yay!

This time around, I've set myself sixteen specific daily tasks in these categories: Healthy Nutrition (5), Record Keeping (4), Exercise/Wellbeing (5), and Mental Activities (2). My objective is to complete 96 of these each week (counted Sunday - Saturday), which feels more realistic than a 100% for the year goal (which I would have failed three days in and that would have demoralized me for the remainder of the year).

Of course, being who I am, I set up a spreadsheet to track all this, which shows results by day, week, 4-week period and year, so I can see how well I'm doing. Right now, I'm at 102.85% for the year, so I have some leeway in case I need to have a down day, but can still improve to aim for completing the year above 100% of goals.

So, I didn't do so well at posting about preparation for my Year of Commitment. I did do the two weeks I had planned, but was promptly reminded how difficult it can be to keep momentum on after-work activities during a 40-hour work week. I'm planning on lots of flexibility when it comes to my Writing, Organizing and Project time (aiming for 6 hours, 3 hours and 3 hours each week for those). I don't want to end up looking at 12 hours of effort on a weekend to hit my goals (I know it's MY commitment, but I'll be sure to still complain about it).

I was talking to Kristi yesterday, and admitted that since I was self-scoring, I could just mark everything as done and declare myself a winner. The grown-up part of my brain knows that I wouldn't achieve the benefits of the exercise, meditation, writing and productivity of the time not spent. And the results are really what I want here. Which may be my mantra to motivate myself, asking "Do you want the benefits of doing it?"

This week I showed that when I'm on vacation, I can meet or exceed my goals! Yay! The picture is a snippet from the spreadsheet I created to track my progress by week. When I reach my goal for each of the categories, the counter square under the 'GOAL CHECKING' heading turns green. If I hit my goal for all six in a week, the 'BONUS!!" appears. No, I haven't figured out what reward I get for a Bonus, but it seems like I should get something, doesn't it? I mean, aside from the real benefits of following-through with these activities. (And a sense of Smug Superiority, of course.)

I wonder how it's going to go from here?
